Friends of the Exe is a new grassroots organisation aiming to be a voice for their River, the Exe, seeking to protect, restore and celebrate the river and its tributaries. Their Festival of the Exe overlapped with Quaker week so Exmouth Quakers held two events which contributed to the Festival and invited others to participate in a Quaker-led event.
The first was ‘Lights in the Darkness’, a night sea swim at Pirates Cove on the Estuary, and the second an Evening Stillness gathering at sunset on the beach overlooking the estuary for 30 minutes of silent contemplation.
Both were enjoyed by Quakers and others. After the Stillness event, Friends of the River Exe (FORE) Facebook page included pictures and appreciation: ‘Thank you Exmouth Quakers…..A very moving Stillness.’
