In the beginning

EarthQuaker Issue 97

Stromatolites

Forget Eden - the real Eve was a sticky mound
with a carbon fixation. No sweetwater
no apples no fig leaves. Eve wore slime
armour against deadly radiance.

Picture the garden
treeless and fungoid, extending
for thousands
of dimpled miles, exuding -

one bubble at a time -
the toxin it had no use for
but which gave
breath to us

aka the angel
with the flamethrower.

They're still here. Not sure
our track record will match up.
